The Brooklyn Museum to see the Annie Leibovitz photography montage and the sculptures of Ron Mueck. Both were simply breathtaking. First, Annie Leibovitz is mostly known for her celebrity pictures, some of the more famous ones were the Demi Moore pregnant pose on Vanity Fair in the 90s, Nicole Kidman in her stunning dress and sparkled lighting, and more recently the provacative Vanity Fair picture with Tom Ford, Kiera Knightley, and Scarlett Johannsen. But in my opinion, those were not as good as the pictures of her mom and dad (some taken when her dad was dying of cancer), her partner, Susan Sontag (throughout her bout with leukemia), and the pictures taken in war torn areas. The most moving one was of a Tutsi school in Rwanda during the genocide, which pictures a wall filled with blood-painted fingerprints and footprints. She makes you understand the power that pictures have.
The Ron Mueck sculptures were amazing because they were so life like. The looked like real people. Some were big, some were small, but that all were very moving with the expressions on their faces or what they showed. There was one that was a baby that had just come out of the womb, but 25 feet long! As my mom said, that is what they look like.
The architecture of the museum is in an of itself worth heading here, but these special showings make it even better. Also, for those New Yorkers who use a Metrocard, when you show it, you receive a 2 for 1 admission!
Dinner was at Sotto Voce in Park Slope, a very quaint place with brick exposed walls and reasonably priced food. I had this seafood pasta spicy sauce. Very good. My buddy, Stu joined us. He was in town for the holidays. After enjoying some dessert, Stu and I headed back to the union hall for a few drinks and we ended up staying out longer than expected so he missed his train...be it's all good, we had a good time.
